Travis Holler, the son of Lois Hess-Hoover and the late Jeffrey Holler and the late Charles "Ed" Hoover, was born on March 12. He spent several years being raised in Perry County and later moved to Enola with his parents, where he graduated from East Pennsboro High School in 1994.
Michelle Lyter-Holler, the daughter of Tom and the late Peg Casner-Lyter and step-daughter to Carol Lyter, was born on May 25. She was born and raised in Juniata County, living most of her school years on Cedar Street. In 1990 Michelle graduated from Juniata High School and 1995 graduated from Shippensburg University.
We met in September of 2008 on a social networking site. Our first date, October 9, 2008, was dinner and a movie in Carlisle. There was something that just "clicked" for us and we began spending a lot of time together. Travis proposed on Easter at the family gathering to celebrate the holiday in 2009. We were married on our two year anniversary of our first date - October 9, 2010! Surrounded by our family and friends, our wedding was the beginning of our life together. 2010 was a big year for us because not only did we get married but we also bought our first house in the Licking Creek area that we share with our two fur kids, Faith and Ellie.
As we began trying to have a child, there were many bumps in the road. As some of these bumps were cleared, others soon took their place. In June, 2013 the medicines had an awful reaction in Michelle and the hopes to have a biological child had come to an end.
Faced with a decision to remain childless or push onto other options, we decided to push on and explore other options. We are both very eager to be parents and experience raising a child. Since this isn't the first time that either of us have faced a challenge in our life, we decided to give this a try.
We researched how to become foster parents, read some books about the foster care system and then in September, 2013 made the plunge to start the approval process. We have met some wonderful ladies that work for Family Care for Children and Youth (FCCY) that came to visit us, explain the process and then begin the paperwork. At the end of March, 2014 we got our approval letter that we are now officially foster parents. We had one placement with FCCY and after that decided to close our certification with them. We researched additional agencies and became certified with Diakon Lutheran Services in May of 2015. We have had 2 placements so far with them and have loved every minute of having the sound of children in our home.
We have selected Adoptions from the Heart to help us adopt our baby. We attended information sessions with several agencies and felt this one was the best choice for us. This process is quite extensive as you might guess after all we are talking about a small child's life and happiness. There are also many fees that are associated with each step in the process. We are have had some fundraisers to help with our costs. We took a little break at the end of 2015 but now have a few more things coming up. We would appreciate any support from our friends and family. Please check in as we will update our progress often. We will be adding our events where you can come see us. And lastly we just want to thank everyone for taking the time to learn what we are trying to do.
God bless!
Love,
Travis and Michelle
